Q3 Results on Oct 29: What Happened
Intel reported after the close. Close $92.07, then about $72 (−22%). Before the results, the stock had already fallen 25% since Sep 25 ($123.00).
- A strong quarter. Revenue $16.51bn (+21%, consensus 16.42), adjusted EPS $0.52 (consensus 0.40). Data center (DCAI) $7.32bn (+78%) at a 41.5% operating margin.
- A weak outlook. Q4 revenue $15.0–16.0bn (consensus 17.02), adjusted EPS $0.25 (0.44), gross margin 38% after 44.1%.
- Reasons. A PC slowdown driven by expensive memory, which the CFO expects to last “at least through the first half of next year”; lost output after the accident at the Kiryat Gat fab (≈ $600m over two quarters).
- Foundry. Eleventh straight loss-making quarter (−$1.85bn), 14A process design kit at version 0.9; $23bn equity offering completed.
Verdict: The data center turnaround is real – but the price had priced in more than the outlook delivers.
Fundamentals vs. Technicals
Fundamentals: strong data center, volatile overall
Revenue has accelerated sharply since Q2, operating margin up from 4.0% to 15.3% in four quarters. Over twelve months a GAAP loss of $12.0bn remains (one-off charges in Q1/Q2), and ROIC has dropped from 12.2% (2021) to about zero. Dividend cancelled, share count +13% in 2025, another equity raise in 2026.
Technicals: correction within an uptrend regime
Price below the SMA50 ($101.23) and the SMA200 ($86.68), about 17% under the SMA200; RSI 28.2, Bollinger position −6% (below the lower band). Long term golden cross since May 25, 2026, price in the 89th percentile of the 5-year range. Elliott: weekly medium term wave 3 down (target $66.88, trend-aligned), daily wave 2 down with its target at the after-hours price, weekly long only a counter-trend count.
Indicators based on the Oct 29 after-hours price (provisional, not a regular close).

| Model | Bear | Base | Bull | Base vs. price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOTP (Q3 segments ×4) | $42 | $60 | $81 | −16.0% |
| DCF (FCF-based, WACC 12.1%) | $11 | $23 | $47 | −67.9% |
| Graham-Dodd (run-rate EPS $1.54) | – | $32 | – | −54.9% |
WACC: risk-free rate 4.98%, measured beta 2.23 → Blume-adjusted 1.82, equity risk premium 4.46% → cost of equity 13.12%, WACC 12.06%. SOTP: Intel Products $21.3bn operating income × 12 / 16 / 20x, foundry $26.8bn revenue × 0.5 / 1 / 2, corporate costs (−$4.2bn) × 10, net cash less minority interests −$12.8bn, 5.29bn shares. The FCF DCF only reaches the price with a ~58% target FCF margin – the market is pricing an earnings recovery, not cash flow. Run-rate EPS = (Q3 actual 0.52 + Q4 guide 0.25) × 2.
Key Chart Levels
The price has slipped just below the 61.8% Fibonacci level of the weekly swing $34.50 → $133.99 ($72.51) after hours; the weekly Elliott target sits below it. Resistance 1: the SMA200, which the price lost after hours (20-day low $84.65 and 6-month low $81.88 also broken). Resistance 2: SMA50. Chart levels, not a trading recommendation.
Context Check (Macro)
With a beta of 2.23, Intel moves more than twice as much as the market. The VIX is in its normal range at 17.2 – the sell-off is stock-specific. The US 10-year yield (4.98%) weighs on the valuation of a company that does not yet generate sustainable free cash flow.
The AI investment cycle drives demand for Xeon processors but, through memory prices, makes the PCs that form Intel's largest segment more expensive. Next catalyst: Q4 results in late January 2027 (date unconfirmed).
The Devil's Advocate
“The outlook is deliberately cautious – Intel cannot even ship as many Xeons as customers want.”
Adjusted earnings came in 30% above consensus, and the data center is the most profitable segment at a 41.5% margin. Demand exceeds supply.
About $300m per quarter explains roughly a fifth of the gap to consensus. Once it fades and the capacity bottleneck eases, the outlook may quickly look too low.
Even after hours (≈ $72), the price is above the SOTP base ($60) and about twice the start-of-year level ($36.90). The foundry still costs almost $2bn per quarter.

Base: Q3 ×4 – Intel Products $21.3bn operating income, foundry $26.8bn revenue. Fixed block −$49.4bn: all other × 8 (+5.7), corporate costs × 10 (−42.3), net cash 3.9 less minority interests $16.6bn; 5.29bn shares. Bear 12x / 0.5 → $42, base 16x / 1.0 → $60, bull 20x / 2.0 → $81. Try it: with the foundry at 1.0x, the $92.07 close needs about 24x for the products, the after-hours price (≈ $72) about 19x.

Short term, the state “below SMA200, oversold RSI” gives Intel an edge only after 5 days (n = 301, edge +3.5 pp); after 10/20 days it falls below the baseline (−3.1 / −3.0 pp). The long-term uptrend regime shows a small advantage over 52 weeks (+3.6 pp, n = 1,394). The weekly Elliott count (wave 3 down, target $66.88) is trend-aligned and hits at 55.5% versus 53.5% for the trend baseline.
